25/02/2010 - EU Justice and Home Affairs ministers meet in Brussels

On 25-26 February the EU Justice & Home Affairs Council meets to discuss a number of important initiatives. Vice-President Reding represents the European Commission in the Justice Council (26 February) and will outline what will be her political priorities in the months to come.


18/02/2010 - Towards a European Area of Fundamental Rights

All the components for developing an ambitious European fundamental rights policy are now in place. The Lisbon Treaty makes the EU's accession to the European Convention of Human Rights an obligation and Viviane Reding, the first EU Commissioner for Fundamental Rights, will take the negotiation into her hands. 10/02/2010 - First EU-Justice, Fundamental Rights & Citizenship-Commissioner takes office

Viviane Reding takes office as the EU's first ever Commissioner for Justice, Fundamental Rights and Citizenship, policies where citizens expect the most from Europe. The Lisbon Treaty revolutionizes policy making in these areas by putting citizens at the heart of all Union policies. The creation of this new post comes therefore at the right moment. Vice-President Reding is committed to working for a Europe of results.
