President Barroso's statement on Japan

I am pleased to announce that the European Union therefore presented a consolidated offer to the Japanese authorities.

President Barroso explained that "the European Commission has just received from Japan a detailed request for European assistance in order to address the consequences of the devastating earthquake of last Friday. He announced that the European Union therefore is presenting a consolidated offer to the Japanese authorities and stressed that "we continue to stand by the Japanese people and the Japanese authorities in these very difficult moments."
