President Barroso receives Corvinus University honoris causa

President Barroso

On 11 September, President Barroso received the Doctor Honoris Causa degree of the Corvinus University of Budapest from the hands of Prof.. Dr. Zsolt Rostoványi, Rector of the University.

The President made a speech entitled 'In varietate concordia'. He said: "I am especially excited to receive it at a time when we celebrate 10 years of this university – following the merger of the economics and horticulture universities in 2004; after just having commemorated 10 years of Hungary's accession to the European Union – which marked the true re-union of East and West; and at a moment when I prepare to hand over my mandate as President of the European Commission to my successor, Jean-Claude Juncker. He also reminded the audience that all three Hungarian Commissioners are former alumni of this university, which is so renowned for international relations, economics, and EU-studies through its Jean Monnet Chair.
