Annual EU-Norway Energy Dialogue, 22 November, Oslo
At this occasion I exchanged views about the Norwegian energy policy and EU energy priorities with the Norwegian Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Mr Tord Lien, and Minister of EEA and EU Affairs, Mr Vidar Helgesen. We agreed on the need for a common approach on a number of key energy policy issues, such as the completion of the internal market, the development of infrastructure, and the transition towards a low carbon economy. Norway's flexible approach on gas prices gives it a competitive advantage and Norway will be a long term key gas supplier for the EU. With its vast hydropower capacity Norway can also become an important partner in renewable energy, provided the necessary electricity interconnections are built. I also insisted that Norway makes a priority of implementing the Third Energy Package and makes work of the ownership unbundling in both the electricity and gas markets.
