Commissioner Oettinger meets key energy players in Paris

Commissioner Oettinger travelled to Paris on 1 October to meet some key energy players and discuss the links between the EU's and France's energy policy priorities. After meeting Environment and Energy Minister Delphine Batho, he saw Dominique Maillard the CEO of RTE, the French power transmission systems operator, and Marc Coroler from Schneider Electric. The programme also included a working lunch with EDF's top management and the heads of their European subsidiaries.

Addressing journalists at the Commission Representation, Günter Oettinger welcomed the launch of the debate on energy transition in France. He stressed that these debates are essential in all Member States for defining the political framework for energy policy at EU level by 2030 and for giving more certainty to investors. He added that it is crucial to complete the internal market for energy as mandated by the European Council, and that this is achievable only with the investment and innovation potential from industrial partners. He also encouraged France to deliver on its major buildings refurbishment programme.
