CONSUMER POLICY

It is a great honour to be nominated as Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development

This is an important dossier; the European Union and its Member States are the world´s largest donors of development assistance. More than this in an interdependent world Europe's future is inextricably linked to that of our neighbours both near and far.

The next step as Commissioner designate is the hearing with the European parliament. I look forward to this first opportunity to set out my objectives for the new portfolio and exchange views with MEPs as to how we can best work together in the interests of Europe.

As Commissioner for consumer policy I have sought to show added value of Europe for people’s day to day lives. I will strive to do in the future.

Work on the current portfolio will continue until the end: there is important legislation to navigate through the legislative system which will further ensure the safety of European consumers, and further efforts needed on the enforcement of consumer rights for example, In-app purchase, to carry on.
