Connie Hedegaard: "30% energy efficiency proposal is good news for climate, investors and energy security"

Commenting on today's energy efficiency proposal, EU Climate Action Commissioner Connie Hedegaard said: "Today the Commission is sending a strong message on energy efficiency: a 30% energy savings target for 2030. This is of course very good news for the climate. It's also good news for investors, and it's very good news for Europe's energy security and independence. Meaning no such good news for Putin."

The energy efficiency target announced today completes the headline targets of the 2030 policy framework for climate and energy proposed by the European Commission.  In January, the Commission proposed a 40% cut in EU domestic greenhouse gas emissions below the 1990 level, and an increase in the share of renewable energy to at least 27% of the EU's energy consumption by 2030. The 2030 framework aims to make the European Union's economy and energy system more competitive, secure and sustainable.
