Connie Hedegaard to speak at African Ministerial Conference on the Environment
Connie Hedegaard has accepted an invitation to give a keynote speech at the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN) in Arusha, Tanzania on 13-14 September.
Regarding climate change, the conference will provide a platform for African countries to consolidate and enhance Africa’s common position in the international climate negotiations in preparation for the annual UN climate change conference, to be held at the end of November in Doha, Qatar. Connie Hedegaard will participate in the talks to further European cooperation with Africa on climate matters: many African countries are part of the group of Least Developed Countries with which the European Union worked closely to achieve progress at last year's UN climate conference in Durban, South Africa.
As well as attending AMCEN and delivering her keynote speech on 14 September, Commissioner Hedegaard will hold bilateral meetings with ministers with a view to helping ensure the Doha climate conference becomes a successful milestone on the way to the adoption of a legally binding global climate agreement by 2015.
