Connie Hedegaard: "The world must get its act together"

In response to a comprehensive new study released today by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), Connie Hedegaard said: "The bad news is that the gap is widening. The good news is that UNEP shows that it can still be closed. But its report underlines why the world should not spend more time thinking what to do. The world must get its act together."

The Commissioner for Climate Action added: "Durban is an opportunity for exactly this. Yes we must implement earlier decisions but we must do more in Durban. Improving the additionality of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), enhancing accounting rules and solving the problems with Land Use, Land-Use Change and Forestry (LULUCF) and assigned amount units (AAUs) are all on the EU's list of priorities for Durban, which is very much in line with UNEP's recommendations.
