Connie Hedegaard: "Europe goes to Durban with a very clear position and priorities"
"We have Council conclusions after very substantial discussions, so it's fair to say that Europe goes to Durban now with a very clear position and priorities", stressed Connie Hedegaard during a press conference that took place on 10 October.
According to the Commissioner, there is a growing understanding that the world cannot label Durban a big success if just Europe - only representing 11% of global emissions – more or less alone with a few countries, takes a second commitment period...
"More needs to be done - and that is also a very clear message from the Council today. The world needs others to commit as well, in particular the major emitters. The EU confirms its openness to a second commitment period as part of a transition to a wider legally binding framework."
