Connie Hedegaard: "Consumers have the power of the purse to decide whether they buy green products or not"
"Consumers and consumer organisations do play a crucial role in fighting climate change. Governments can set a framework with their policies; set targets, define standards, give incentives to make companies going green. Business and industries together with researchers can provide the solutions. But in the end, the consumers have the power of the purse to decide whether they buy green products or not. So the support by consumer organisations will be key for implementing our climate policies in the next decades", said the European Commissioner for Climate Action Connie Hedegaard during the Consumer International 19th World Congress.
