Commissioner Hedegaard to go to Korea and Hong Kong on 2-4 May

Early next week (2-4 May) EU Commissioner for Climate Action Connie Hedegaard travels to Korea and Honk Hong to discuss international and European climate policies and green growth.

In Seoul, Commissioner Hedegaard will meet several government representatives responsible for climate policies and green growth, including the Minister of Environment Lee Maanee, the Minister of Knowledge Economy Choi Joong-kyung and the Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Green Growth Soogil Young. With her counterparts she will discuss possibilities for deepening EU-Korea cooperation on promoting green growth, inter alia through the Global Green Growth Institute, and on emissions trading. The Commissioner will also deliver a speech on low carbon economies towards 2050 at the Ewha Womans University and visit a solar cell production plant and a major landfill site in Korea.

On 4 May, Commissioner Hedegaard will travel to Hong Kong to deliver a keynote speech entitled "Empowering consumers in the green economy" at the 19th Consumer International World Congress. The Commissioner will also attend a forum on "Climate Action in Europe and Hong Kong – a continuing conversation" organised by Civic Exchange. During her visit, Commissioner Hedegaard will meet with Chief Executive Donald Tsang and Secretary for Environment Edward Yau of the Hong Kong SAR government, and several key business people, including representatives from aviation and maritime sector.
