Climate Action Conference: Connie Hedegaard speaks to 100 journalists from around the world
On behalf of the European Commission, the European Journalism Centre hosted in Brussels from 25 to 27 October 2010 the 'Climate Action Conference. Climate Change: The EU Perspective', an event exclusively for international media.
This international event gathered climate change experts from governments, NGOs, media and academia, with keynotes from Connie Hedegaard, European Commissioner for Climate Action, Jean-Pascal van Ypersele, Vice-chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, and Jeffrey Sachs, Director of the Earth Institute at Columbia University (video conference).
The conference tackled critical themes in the run up to the UN Climate Change talks in Cancún, December 2010. Providing vivid examples of environmental co-operation, the event featured debates between policy-makers and environmental thinkers, sharing the latest insights into the growing carbon market and deforestation, among other sectoral issues.
The speaker line up included Director General Jos Delbeke, Laurence Graff and Yvon Slingenberg on behalf of DG CLIMA, Simone Ruiz, International Emissions Trading Association, Tomas Wyns, Climate Action Network Europe, and Hans ten Berge, EURELECTRIC. Around 100 journalists from around the world participated in the Conference.
