Commissioner Hedegaard will take part in the 4th Petersberg ministerial dialogue on climate change on 5-7 May in Berlin. The informal meeting is intended to contribute to preparations for this year's United Nations climate change conference, which Poland will host in November in Warsaw. The German and Polish environment ministers will co-chair the Petersberg dialogue and have invited ministers from some 35 countries representing the various groups in UN climate negotiations. Under the motto 'Shaping the future', the agenda focuses on four questions: how can an ambitious, effective and fair international climate agreement covering all countries be achieved by 2015 and brought into force from 2020; how can the UN climate negotiations promote greater national climate action before 2020 in order to keep global warming below 2°C; how can the international negotiations create effective incentives for more private investment to drive the transition to a low-carbon economy; and how can the Warsaw conference help achieve these goals and what are the most important milestones on the way to the 2015 agreement? German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk will both address the meeting on 6 May.

Connie Hedegaard, European Commissioner for Climate Action, will visit Madrid and Barcelona on 17-19 April for talks with leading Spanish political and economic figures. In Madrid on 17 and 18 April Commissioner Hedegaard will present the Commission's climate change public awareness campaign A world you like with a climate you like at an event with Spanish Environment Minister Miguel Arias Cañete. She will have separate meetings with Mr Arias Cañete and Secretary of State for Environment Federico Ramos de Armas and also meet Iñigo Méndez de Vigo, Secretary of State for European Affairs, and Alberto Nadal, Secretary of State for Energy, over dinner. Commissioner Hedegaard will also address the Spanish Parliament's committee on climate change and hold talks with Elena Valenciano, Juan Moscoso and Hugo Moran from the opposition Socialist Party. She will speak at a breakfast debate organised by Nueva Economía Fórum and visit an EU-supported climate-friendly social housing project. In Barcelona on 18 and 19 April Commissioner Hedegaard will have a meeting and press point with the President of Catalonia, Artur Mas, will meet the Advisory Council for Sustainable Development of Catalonia and will make a working visit to the Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean. She will also have a dinner with key opinion-makers, a meeting with the President of the Spanish Renewable Energy Association, Jaume Margarit, and visit an EU-funded waste-to-energy plant.

Connie Hedegaard will travel to Oslo, Norway, where she will attend the conference "How to achieve an effective global climate agreement in 2015?”. Other participants of the conference include Gambian Minister of Environment Ms. Fatou Gaye, Norwegian Minister of the Environment Bård Vegar Solhjell, Leader of the Norwegian Conservative Party Erna Solberg and Leader of the Norwegian Society for the Conservation of Nature, Lars Haltbrekken. The Commissioner is also to have meetings with the Norwegian Minister of Environment Bård Vegar Solhjell and the Ministry of Finance's State Secretary Kjetil Lund.

Connie Hedegaard will visit the United States from 28 February to 3 March for talks with US government officials, members of Congress, and the World Bank. In Washington she will have meetings with, among others, Michael Froman, Assistant to the President and Deputy National Security Advisor for International Economic Affairs; Todd Stern, United States Special Envoy for Climate Change; Bob Perciasepe, Deputy Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency; Rachel Kyte, Vice-President of Sustainable Development at the World Bank; and Congressman Henry Waxman and Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, the initiators of a new bicameral task force on climate change. Commissioner Hedegaard will also see John Podesta, Chair of the Center for American Progress, and have a lunch meeting with non-governmental organisations hosted by the World Resources Institute. She will finish her trip by delivering a keynote speech at a European Conference at Harvard University.

Connie Hedegaard will visit Warsaw for a day of talks with Polish ministers, parliamentarians and business representatives. On the agenda will be preparations for the annual UN climate change conference, which Poland will host in Warsaw in November 2013, as well as a range of other climate-related policy issues. Commissioner Hedegaard will have meetings with Deputy Prime Minister and Economy Minister Janusz Piechociński, Olgierd Dziekoński, Secretary of State in the Chancellery of the President, Minister of Environment Marcin Korolec, and Secretary of State for European Affairs Piotr Serafin. She will also have a working lunch with members of both chambers of the Polish Parliament (Sejm and Senat) and a meeting with representatives of the business community.

European Commissioner for Climate Action Connie Hedegaard will attend the World Economic Forum taking place in Davos, Switzerland 24-26 January. The theme of the Forum – 'Resilient Dynamism' – provides the backdrop for discussions and meetings on climate change and clean energy in particular. On 24 January, Commissioner Hedegaard will participate in a panel discussion 'Shifting Fortunes: Towards a New Climate Framework' with Christiana Figueres, Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, and representatives of business groups and non-governmental organisations. On 25 January, she has been invited to speak to the Green Growth Action Alliance on transforming investment flows to promote clean energy and also to a group of scientists and business leaders on 'Climate change: the way forward'. Commissioner Hedegaard will also have a series of informal meetings and participate in sessions focused on the 2013 priorities for steering global transformation towards resilient dynamism, and on the Millennium Development Goals.

Connie Hedegaard, European Commissioner for Climate Action, will visit Abu Dhabi on 15-16 January to participate in a number of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week events and for high-level talks with representatives of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and other nations. Commissioner Hedegaard will give a keynote address at the World Future Energy Summit and International Water Summit on 15 January and the welcome address at the Third annual conference on EU-Gulf Cooperation Council Renewable Energy Cooperation on 16 January. She will have meetings with, among others, UAE Minister of Environment and Water Dr. Rashid Ahmed bin Fahad, the Director of the International Renewable Energy Agency, Adnan Z. Amin, and Dr Sultan bin Al Jaber, UAE Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Special Envoy for Energy and Climate Change and CEO of the renewable energy and sustainable technologies company Masdar. Commissioner Hedegaard will have a guided tour of Masdar City, which is being developed as a model for sustainable urban development and aims to become a global hub for renewable energy and sustainable technologies. She will also give an address to Young Future Energy Leaders at the Masdar Institute.

The Commissioner will have meetings with the following Czech ministers: Martin Kuba (Industry and Trade); Tomáš Chalupa (Environment); Miroslav Kalousek, (Finance Minister); and Vojtěch Belling (State Secretary for EU Affairs). The Commissioner will also meet with members of the Czech Senate, and representatives of the business and industry community, and of NGOs. She will participate in the Association of Energy Services' Providers (APES) conference "Energy savings and EPC".

Ministerial week for the 67th session of the General Assembly of the United Nation begins on Monday, 24 September 2012. Commission President José Manuel Barroso, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the Commission Catherine Ashton and Commissioners Kristalina Georgieva (International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response), Connie Hedegaard (Climate Action) and Andris Piebalgs (Development), together with European Council President Herman Van Rompuy, will travel to New York to represent the EU in discussions on peace and security, sustainable development, human rights and strengthening the role of the United Nations.

Commissioner Hedegaard will meet with representatives of the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) to advance negotiations in the run-up to the next round of international climate negotiations. Besides a series of bilateral meetings, Commissioner Hedegaard hosts an Informal High-level Climate change Roundtable for the Durban Platform on 28 September. She will also take part in the Major Economies Forum on 27 September.

The delegation will present a declaration with policy suggestions prepared by the participating pupils.

Connie Hedegaard and the Danish Presidency of the Council of the European Union have invited ministers from the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS), Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and a number of Latin American countries to talks in Brussels on 7-8 May. This Informal Roundtable will build on the important breakthrough achieved at the 2011 Durban climate conference and explore further cooperation.

In Istanbul, Commissioner Hedegaard and Turkish Environment and Urbanisation Minister Erdoğan Bayraktar will co-host a high-level seminar on EU-Turkey climate cooperation organised by the EU-sponsored Regional Environmental Network for Accession. Minister for Development Cevdet Yılmaz will also address the seminar. Minister Bayraktar and Commissioner Hedegaard will hold a joint press conference during the event. Commissioner Hedegaard will also attend a dinner with the Turkish business community and hold a meeting with environmental groups.

Her visit to Doha will focus on preparations for this year's UN conference on climate change, which will take place in the city at the end of November. Qatar is the first OPEC member to host the annual conference. Commissioner Hedegaard will hold talks with Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Attiyah, who will chair the conference, and Environment Minister Abdullah bin Mubarak Al Madadi.

Connie Hedegaard will be in Cyprus 15-16 March to meet government ministers in view of Cyprus' first Presidency of the Council.

The meetings in Cyprus will cover preparations for the Cypriot presidency, including the Informal Environment Council to be held in Nicosia on 7-8 July. Talks will focus on domestic climate-related issues, discussions in Council of climate-related files, and preparation of the Rio+20 UN Conference on Sustainable Development in June and of the UNFCCC climate change conference in Qatar in November.

Commissioner Hedegaard will be meeting with Mr Sofoclis Aletraris, Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment and Mr Efthymios Flourentzou, Minister of Communications and Works. The visit will include meetings with the Environment Committee of the House of Representatives chaired by Mr Adamos Adamou. Commissioner Hedegaard will also meet with representatives of the maritime industry, non-governmental organisations and the winners of the bi-communal photography and video competition on environment and climate change, organised last year by the European Commission Representation in Cyprus.

On 7 March 2012, Connie Hedegaard visits Geneva for the "Grand Public Conference on the Green Economy and Climate Change" and the launch of Sustainia, an international communication and innovation platform for citizens and stakeholders on how to build the sustainable society of tomorrow. The Sustainia Award, described as a 'Nobel Prize' for sustainable development, will be awarded for the first time during the Rio+20 UN Conference on Sustainable Development in June in Brazil.

At the University of Geneva, Connie Hedegaard will participate in a high-level discussion with Arnold Schwarzenegger, former governor of California, who is Chair of the Sustainia Committee.

The Commissioner for Climate Action Connie Hedegaard is in Nairobi (20-21 February), where the Governing Council of the United Nations Environment Programme is meeting.

The Governing Council will focus on emerging policy issues under the overall theme of "The environmental agenda in the changing world: from Stockholm (1972) to Rio (2012)".

Commissioner Hedegaard will have a number of bilateral meetings on the margins of the UNEP Governing Council, in particular with the current and future hosts of the UNFCCC Conference of the Parties (South Africa and Qatar) and with representatives of Least Developed Countries.

These meetings will provide the opportunity to promote a green economy approach for sustainable development and to maintain the momentum developed in Durban for enhanced action towards a legally binding instrument by 2015.

The Commissioner for Climate Action will participate in the panel discussion "Driving green growth" with business leaders and a representative from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

The summit, organised by KPMG International in cooperation with the United Nations Environment Programme, United Nations Global Compact and the World Business Council on Sustainable Development, will address sustainable business growth in a resource-constrained world.

The outcomes will be shared with the Rio+20 UN Conference on Sustainable Development, which will take place in Brazil from 20 to 22 June.

In the margins of the summit, Commissioner Hedegaard will also meet the UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, and the President of the UN General Assembly, Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser. She will also have bilateral meetings with representatives from the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) and the Least Developed Countries (LDC) among others.

Connie Hedegaard will travel to India from 2 to 4 February to attend the 12th Delhi Sustainable Development Summit, where she will give a keynote speech on 3 February.

The Summit is an annual high level event, which this year focuses on the upcoming Rio+20 UN Conference on Sustainable Development, taking place in Brazil from 20 to 22 June.

Commissioner Hedegaard will also participate in the presentation of the report of the UN High Level Panel on Global Sustainability on 2 February.

In the margins of the Summit, she will discuss the next steps in the international climate negotiations and other climate-related themes with Indian media, NGOs and think tanks; and have bilateral meetings with several Indian ministers and the Maldives' Minister for Housing and Environment.

Amongst others, she will take part in the session "Reshaping the Climate Agenda - After Durban, what is the new agenda for the global fight against climate change?" and various sessions in preparation of the Rio+20 summit taking place in June 2012 in Brazil.

Connie Hedegaard will visit New York from 18 to 22 September for a series of high-level meetings in connection with the annual meeting of the United Nations General Assembly. Many of the meetings will help to prepare the UN climate conference in Durban, South Africa, at the end of the year.

On 18-19 September Commissioner Hedegaard will participate in a meeting of the High-Level Panel on Global Sustainability, which has been mandated to formulate a global blueprint for sustainable growth and low-carbon prosperity ahead of the "Rio +20" UN Conference on Sustainable Development to be held in June 2012. Commissioner Hedegaard was appointed to the Global Sustainability Panel by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon when he created it last year.

On 20 September the Climate Commissioner will speak at a meeting of the Troika of Women Leaders on Gender and Climate Change, hosted by former Irish President Mary Robinson, and at a "Leaders' Dialogue" on climate change hosted by Mexico and South Africa, the hosts of the 2010 and 2011 UN climate conferences, respectively. The focus will be on what can be achieved at the Durban conference. Commissioner Hedegaard will also take part in a panel discussion on climate change at the Louise Blouin Creative Leadership Summit.

On 22 September Commissioner Hedegaard will hold talks with Todd Stern, the US Special Envoy for Climate Change. During her visit she will also have bilateral meetings with ministers or senior officials from many other countries including Japan, Mali, Tunisia, Nepal, Democratic Republic of Congo, Turkey and Nauru.

On 9-10 September Commissioner Hedegaard will be in Cape Town, South Africa, for an informal international ministerial consultation to help prepare the Durban conference. The ministerial consultation will focus on key political questions for Durban. South African President Jacob Zuma will address the meeting on 9 September.

Connie Hedegaard will visit Australia, New Zealand and South Africa for high-level talks on climate change. Preparations for the UN climate change conference in Durban, South Africa, at the end of the year will be the common theme. In New Zealand she will participate in the annual meeting of the Pacific Island Forum (PIF) on 6-7 September together with European Commission President José Manuel Barroso. Ahead of the PIF, Commissioner Hedegaard will address a meeting of leaders from 15 Pacific member countries of the ACP (African, Caribbean and Pacific) group of developing nations and also hold bilateral meetings with several delegations. She will be guest of honour at a dinner hosted by New Zealand's minister for the environment and climate change issues, Nick Smith, and will also meet opposition spokespersons on climate and environment.

Connie Hedegaard will visit Australia, New Zealand and South Africa for high-level talks on climate change. Preparations for the UN climate change conference in Durban, South Africa, at the end of the year will be the common theme. In Sydney Commissioner Hedegaard will meet Australia's minister for climate change and energy efficiency, Greg Combet, have lunch with the Europe-Australia Business Council and participate in a roundtable meeting with non-government organisations and other representatives of civil society.

Connie Hedegaard will visit the Lithuanian capital, Vilnius, on 31 August and 1 September for talks on a range of climate change issues with senior government figures, parliamentarians and key stakeholders. Commissioner Hedegaard will meet Lithuanian President Dalia Gybauskaité on 31 August and Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius the following day. The topics discussed are expected to include the climate dimension of the EU multi-annual financial framework for 2014-2020, the international climate negotiations and the domestic EU climate agenda to 2020 and low-carbon roadmap to 2050. Commissioner Hedegaard will also hold talks with Environment Minister Gedimina Kazlauskas and Economy Minister Rimantas Žylius as well as meeting members of the Lithuanian parliament, the Seimas, and speaking at the opening of the academic year at Vilnius University's Faculty of Natural Science. Connie Hedegaard's trip also includes meetings with the speaker of the Polish parliament and the Committee on European Affairs, Economy and Environment.

Among other things, topics of discussion will be the preparations for the Polish presidency; international climate negotiations, the Roadmap for moving to a competitive low-carbon economy in 2050 and the preparations for mainstreaming climate action in the next Multiannual Financial Framework.

Connie Hedegaard, European Commissioner for Climate Action, will visit Helsinki on 8 October for meetings with the Finnish government, parliamentarians and the business community on climate and energy issues. She will hold talks with President Tarja Halonen, Prime Minister Mari Kiviniemi, Environment Minister Paula Lehtomäki and Housing Minister Jan Vapaavuori. She will also have meetings with the Grand Committee of the Finnish Parliament and the Confederation of Finnish Industries. Commissioner Hedegaard will take part in a discussion on European and international climate policy organised by the Climate Arena, a communication network on climate change issues.
