Connie Hedegaard and the Danish Presidency of the Council of the European Union have invited ministers from the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS), Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and a number of Latin American countries to talks in Brussels on 7-8 May. This Informal Roundtable will build on the important breakthrough achieved at the 2011 Durban climate conference and explore further cooperation.

In Istanbul, Commissioner Hedegaard and Turkish Environment and Urbanisation Minister Erdoğan Bayraktar will co-host a high-level seminar on EU-Turkey climate cooperation organised by the EU-sponsored Regional Environmental Network for Accession. Minister for Development Cevdet Yılmaz will also address the seminar. Minister Bayraktar and Commissioner Hedegaard will hold a joint press conference during the event. Commissioner Hedegaard will also attend a dinner with the Turkish business community and hold a meeting with environmental groups.

Her visit to Doha will focus on preparations for this year's UN conference on climate change, which will take place in the city at the end of November. Qatar is the first OPEC member to host the annual conference. Commissioner Hedegaard will hold talks with Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Attiyah, who will chair the conference, and Environment Minister Abdullah bin Mubarak Al Madadi.

Connie Hedegaard will be in Cyprus 15-16 March to meet government ministers in view of Cyprus' first Presidency of the Council.

The meetings in Cyprus will cover preparations for the Cypriot presidency, including the Informal Environment Council to be held in Nicosia on 7-8 July. Talks will focus on domestic climate-related issues, discussions in Council of climate-related files, and preparation of the Rio+20 UN Conference on Sustainable Development in June and of the UNFCCC climate change conference in Qatar in November.

Commissioner Hedegaard will be meeting with Mr Sofoclis Aletraris, Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment and Mr Efthymios Flourentzou, Minister of Communications and Works. The visit will include meetings with the Environment Committee of the House of Representatives chaired by Mr Adamos Adamou. Commissioner Hedegaard will also meet with representatives of the maritime industry, non-governmental organisations and the winners of the bi-communal photography and video competition on environment and climate change, organised last year by the European Commission Representation in Cyprus.

On 7 March 2012, Connie Hedegaard visits Geneva for the "Grand Public Conference on the Green Economy and Climate Change" and the launch of Sustainia, an international communication and innovation platform for citizens and stakeholders on how to build the sustainable society of tomorrow. The Sustainia Award, described as a 'Nobel Prize' for sustainable development, will be awarded for the first time during the Rio+20 UN Conference on Sustainable Development in June in Brazil.

At the University of Geneva, Connie Hedegaard will participate in a high-level discussion with Arnold Schwarzenegger, former governor of California, who is Chair of the Sustainia Committee.

The Commissioner for Climate Action Connie Hedegaard is in Nairobi (20-21 February), where the Governing Council of the United Nations Environment Programme is meeting.

The Governing Council will focus on emerging policy issues under the overall theme of "The environmental agenda in the changing world: from Stockholm (1972) to Rio (2012)".

Commissioner Hedegaard will have a number of bilateral meetings on the margins of the UNEP Governing Council, in particular with the current and future hosts of the UNFCCC Conference of the Parties (South Africa and Qatar) and with representatives of Least Developed Countries.

These meetings will provide the opportunity to promote a green economy approach for sustainable development and to maintain the momentum developed in Durban for enhanced action towards a legally binding instrument by 2015.

The Commissioner for Climate Action will participate in the panel discussion "Driving green growth" with business leaders and a representative from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

The summit, organised by KPMG International in cooperation with the United Nations Environment Programme, United Nations Global Compact and the World Business Council on Sustainable Development, will address sustainable business growth in a resource-constrained world.

The outcomes will be shared with the Rio+20 UN Conference on Sustainable Development, which will take place in Brazil from 20 to 22 June.

In the margins of the summit, Commissioner Hedegaard will also meet the UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, and the President of the UN General Assembly, Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser. She will also have bilateral meetings with representatives from the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) and the Least Developed Countries (LDC) among others.

Connie Hedegaard will travel to India from 2 to 4 February to attend the 12th Delhi Sustainable Development Summit, where she will give a keynote speech on 3 February.

The Summit is an annual high level event, which this year focuses on the upcoming Rio+20 UN Conference on Sustainable Development, taking place in Brazil from 20 to 22 June.

Commissioner Hedegaard will also participate in the presentation of the report of the UN High Level Panel on Global Sustainability on 2 February.

In the margins of the Summit, she will discuss the next steps in the international climate negotiations and other climate-related themes with Indian media, NGOs and think tanks; and have bilateral meetings with several Indian ministers and the Maldives' Minister for Housing and Environment.

Amongst others, she will take part in the session "Reshaping the Climate Agenda - After Durban, what is the new agenda for the global fight against climate change?" and various sessions in preparation of the Rio+20 summit taking place in June 2012 in Brazil.

Connie Hedegaard will visit New York from 18 to 22 September for a series of high-level meetings in connection with the annual meeting of the United Nations General Assembly. Many of the meetings will help to prepare the UN climate conference in Durban, South Africa, at the end of the year.

On 18-19 September Commissioner Hedegaard will participate in a meeting of the High-Level Panel on Global Sustainability, which has been mandated to formulate a global blueprint for sustainable growth and low-carbon prosperity ahead of the "Rio +20" UN Conference on Sustainable Development to be held in June 2012. Commissioner Hedegaard was appointed to the Global Sustainability Panel by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon when he created it last year.

On 20 September the Climate Commissioner will speak at a meeting of the Troika of Women Leaders on Gender and Climate Change, hosted by former Irish President Mary Robinson, and at a "Leaders' Dialogue" on climate change hosted by Mexico and South Africa, the hosts of the 2010 and 2011 UN climate conferences, respectively. The focus will be on what can be achieved at the Durban conference. Commissioner Hedegaard will also take part in a panel discussion on climate change at the Louise Blouin Creative Leadership Summit.

On 22 September Commissioner Hedegaard will hold talks with Todd Stern, the US Special Envoy for Climate Change. During her visit she will also have bilateral meetings with ministers or senior officials from many other countries including Japan, Mali, Tunisia, Nepal, Democratic Republic of Congo, Turkey and Nauru.

On 9-10 September Commissioner Hedegaard will be in Cape Town, South Africa, for an informal international ministerial consultation to help prepare the Durban conference. The ministerial consultation will focus on key political questions for Durban. South African President Jacob Zuma will address the meeting on 9 September.

Connie Hedegaard will visit Australia, New Zealand and South Africa for high-level talks on climate change. Preparations for the UN climate change conference in Durban, South Africa, at the end of the year will be the common theme. In New Zealand she will participate in the annual meeting of the Pacific Island Forum (PIF) on 6-7 September together with European Commission President José Manuel Barroso. Ahead of the PIF, Commissioner Hedegaard will address a meeting of leaders from 15 Pacific member countries of the ACP (African, Caribbean and Pacific) group of developing nations and also hold bilateral meetings with several delegations. She will be guest of honour at a dinner hosted by New Zealand's minister for the environment and climate change issues, Nick Smith, and will also meet opposition spokespersons on climate and environment.

Connie Hedegaard will visit Australia, New Zealand and South Africa for high-level talks on climate change. Preparations for the UN climate change conference in Durban, South Africa, at the end of the year will be the common theme. In Sydney Commissioner Hedegaard will meet Australia's minister for climate change and energy efficiency, Greg Combet, have lunch with the Europe-Australia Business Council and participate in a roundtable meeting with non-government organisations and other representatives of civil society.

Connie Hedegaard will visit the Lithuanian capital, Vilnius, on 31 August and 1 September for talks on a range of climate change issues with senior government figures, parliamentarians and key stakeholders. Commissioner Hedegaard will meet Lithuanian President Dalia Gybauskaité on 31 August and Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius the following day. The topics discussed are expected to include the climate dimension of the EU multi-annual financial framework for 2014-2020, the international climate negotiations and the domestic EU climate agenda to 2020 and low-carbon roadmap to 2050. Commissioner Hedegaard will also hold talks with Environment Minister Gedimina Kazlauskas and Economy Minister Rimantas Žylius as well as meeting members of the Lithuanian parliament, the Seimas, and speaking at the opening of the academic year at Vilnius University's Faculty of Natural Science.
