Delivering results for Northwest England

Sustaining the good performance of Cohesion Funds in Northwest England was the a key topic when Commissioner Hahn met Joe Anderson, Mayor of Liverpool, Arlene Mc Carthy, Member of the European Parliament for the Northwest and Eddie Smith representing Manchester City Council.

Discussion centred around the advantages of local delivery of EU funds. The Commissioner expressed his satisfaction with the achievements of the structural funds programmes in this region, especially with the efforts made to invest in research and development by enhancing research capacity and fostering the links between universities and enterprises. Most recent figures from the UK record that the North West programme has so far helped to create 12400 new jobs and 6400 new businesses from 2007 to 2012.
