“Slovenia can be more self -confident and proud of what it has achieved

Commissioner Hahn was in Slovenia today to meet Slovene Prime Minister Alenka Bratusek, Members of the Slovene Government and Members of the Slovene Parliament to discuss the current implementation of EU funds and the programming of the future period.

On EU funded investments under Regional Policy, he said “I know how important these investments are for Slovenia. So that the funds can have maximum impact, our new and reformed regional policy is asking for far more focus and strategy than before". “Planning is already well underway in Slovenia – which is no surprise as it has been a reliable and exemplary partner – and continues to be so. Slovenia can be more self -confident and proud of what it has achieved. The crisis has affected many parts of Europe, Slovenia is no exception. But through strategic investment of EU funds into the real economy, these EU Regional Funds will prove a valuable tool for recovery. The focus must be on stimulating SMEs and on intelligent, smart and sustainable usage of money. To help Slovenia still use the funds for this current period, the Commission is ready to assist in shifting priorities and adapting programmes”.

The Commissioner also announced the lifting of the interruption of the Regional Development operational programme and mentioned that this means around €178 million should soon be reimbursed to the Slovene authorities.
