Regional policy contributes to recovery and peace process in Northern Ireland

Commissioner Hahn today met Theresa Villiers, Secretary of State for Northern Ireland to discuss how regional policy can contribute to strengthen Northern Ireland's economy and bring growth and jobs in the region.

The Commissioner welcomed the fact that the programming works for the 2014-20 period in Northern Ireland give a priority to smart specialisation: a possible way for economic recovery.

On the Northern Ireland peace and reconciliation process, the Commissioner reiterated his strong commitment to the PEACE programme and supported that EUR 150 million should be allocated to this programme for 2014-2020 to address social inclusion, youth work, education and capacity building for a shared future for the communities.
