RegioStars 2013: Commissioner Hahn awards innovative projects

Yesterday evening European Commissioner for Regional Policy Johannes Hahn, and Luc Van den Brande, President of the jury announced the winners of the prestigious RegioStars Awards 2013 to Europe’s most innovative and inspiring projects. Five projects from Porto in Portugal, the North West of England, Warmińsko-Mazurskie in Poland, Berlin and Lithuania have this year been honored with the Awards.

Commissioner Hahn said: "EU investment must be channelled into projects that create real growth with real benefits for citizens, the environment and the economy.  We need dynamic and innovative solutions to get Europe’s economy growing. This year's winners are model projects in business innovation, resource efficiency and social inclusion, all with the aim of improving the quality of citizens' lives. They are concrete examples of how we can put our broader European goals, as defined by our Europe 2020 strategy, into practice on the ground. They are driven by local commitment and creativity''.


The winners are:

- Category "Smart growth: “UPTEC – Parque de Ciência e Tecnologia da Universidade do Porto” and Portrait (Portugal)

- Category "Sustainable growth": ENWORKS Resource Efficiency Support and Portrait (North West of England)

- Category "Inclusive growth": Individual Employment Paths and Portrait (Poland)

- Category "Citystar": Neighbourhood Management Berlin and Portrait

- Category "Information and Communication": Towards Work – development of mediation services in recruiting people with hearing disabilities (Lithuania)


The 6th annual edition of the RegioStars Awards attracted a record 149 applications, with 27 finalists.
