Today in Brussels Commissioner Johannes Hahn and Kostis Hatzidakis  Minister for Development, Competitiveness, Infrastructure and Transport in Greece met to discuss how EU structural funds can be better used to help the Greek recovery.

Speaking at a joint Press Conference after their meeting Commissioner Hahn said , " I am deeply impressed at Greece's ability  submit payment claims of upto 3.2 billion EUR  which covers 87% of the target set for this last year under the Memorandum of Understanding. This is a huge success which I very much appreciate. "

Minister Hadzidakis added, "We will continue in our efforts, we know substance of the whole exercise is to deliver .  On the priority projects we are working day and night to meet our objectives with the European Commission"

Next month, Commissioner Hahn travels to the Peloponnese and Western Greece regions. This is the next leg of his "tour" of all 13 Greek regions to make sure Regional Funds – the country's main source of public investment- are spent more effectively.
