“The Nobel Peace Prize to the EU is an award for achievements in the past that have proven their effectiveness in the future“

On the occasion of the award of the Nobel Peace Prize to the European Union, Vice-President of the European Parliament Othmar Karas, European Commissioner for Regional Policy Johannes Hahn, Member of the Board of the Austrian Society for European Policy Eva Nowotny, and Austrian United Nations Youth Delegate Melissa Ofoedu took part in a debate at the Vienna's House of the European Union. The discussion was called "Nobel Peace Prize to the EU: merit of the past or mission for the future?”

Commissioner Hahn said , “The Nobel Peace Prize to the EU is an award for achievements in the past that have proven their effectiveness in the future“. He added “The EU has to work on a change of mindset since it lacks self-confidence. And this, although in many areas, such as securing of individual liberties the EU is the world leader. We can be proud of it but we also need to maintain and further develop this level”.
