Commissioner Hahn meets new Greek Minister for Regional Development Nikos Dendias

Commissioner for Regional Policy Johannes Hahn was Athens on 19 June to meet the new Greek minister for Development and Competitiveness Nikos Dendias to discuss issues still to be tackled for the 2007-13 period and the submission of operational programmes for the 2014-2020 period.

In Athens, Commissioner Hahn also paid tribute to the important contribution of former minister Kostis Hatzidakis in understanding and implementing cohesion policy investments to help the country's recovery and return to growth. This was, he said, also reflected in the Greek Partnership Agreement whichalong with Poland was the third country out of 28 to adopt in May.

At a press conference after the meeting with Minister Dendias Commissioner Hahn said, "We must now build on the momentum created by former minister Hatzidakis and use the investments well for 2014-2020 - for growth and good, sustainable jobs, supporting SMEs and Greece's recovery. We now have the Partnership Agreement and I look forward to the official delivery of the draft operational programmes so investments can flow and continue to produce concrete benefits for citizens."
