Commissioner debates EU Regional Policy in Central Greece

Commissioner for Regional Policy Johannes Hahn was in Central Greece today to meet the Governor of the Region Klearxos Pergantas, mayors and stakeholders of the region to discuss how Central Greece can best take advantage of the new cohesion policy for 2014-2020 with particular focus on innovative entrepreneurship and industrial parks as drivers for regional growth. Continental Greece is the 9th region of the 13 Greek regions the Commissioner has visited so far.

Debating with regional stakeholders and mayors, the Commissioner was responding to concerns and questions about bureaucracy - both from the EU itself, and the obstacles that SMES are facing: “We have to be clear how to invest for example in the area of SMEs. First and foremost, Projects must follow strategy: The strategy , the partnership agreement , are not a bureaucratic exercise from Brussels but should help the region and the Member State as a whole to have a clear picture on how to plot the way ahead and how to use the limited means available”.

The Commissioner also visited the PET of Continental Greece, an EU co financed bottle manufacturer.
