"Slovakia is well on track for 2014-2020"

(03 December 2013)

Commissioner for Regional Policy Johannes Hahn was in Slovakia on 2 December to participate in the dismantling ceremony of the Old bridge of Bratislava.

The dismantling and reconstruction of the bridge will be done with the financing support of EU regional investments in order to improve navigability on the Danube River. Speaking at the ceremony, the Commissioner said, "The reconstruction is an important measure for the interconnection of two parts of Bratislava as it will improve the quality of life of people living in the city. It will also contribute to a broader regional issue, the Danube Strategy."

The Commissioner also met with Mr Ján Počiatek, Slovak Minister of Transport, Construction, and Regional Development where he stated that Slovakia is one of the first Member States whose Partnership Agreement has reached maturity for the financing period 2014-20. During his meeting with Slovak Deputy Prime Minister and Minister responsible for investments Ľubomír Vážny, Commissioner Hahn announced the adoption by the Commission of EU co financing for two major road projects that are part of the Trans European Transport Network, with respectively an EU contribution of €146 million for the D1 motorway and €43 million for the R4 expressway.
