"A macro region for the Adriatic and Ionian countries could bring great advantages"

20/11/2012

On 19 November, Commissioner for Regional Policy Johannes Hahn met with the Foreign Ministers of 8 countries from the Adriatic and Ionian region - Italy, Slovenia, Greece, Montenegro, Croatia, Albania, Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina - to discuss closer cooperation. After the meeting Commissioner Johannes Hahn said " The lessons of the Danube and Baltic Strategies are that the macro regional approach can bring great advantages. A macro region for the Adriatic and Ionian countries could bring a welcome new impetus for co -operation and investment to the benefit of all involved. Our meeting today showed from the countries involved there is a strong will to develop this approach – but such a strategy will be demanding and so we would want to be sure that any preparations are taken with a full awareness of the commitment involved. Political will should be matched by the willingness to commit resources."
