Commissioner Hahn in Hungary: the Hungarian part of the Danube remains navigable for cargo transport and tourism transport

On 28 June afternoon, Commissioner for Regional Policy Johannes Hahn continued his Danube trip to Hungary. He first visited the Budapest Central Wastewater Treatment Plant including a bio-gas energy generator. He took this occasion to welcome that Hungary is a very active actor in the EU Danube Strategy in the fields of water quality, risk management, and that it shows much interest in improving the situation in the energy sector in the Danube Region.

After a short meeting with Mr Karóly Kontrát, Minister of Internal Affairs, The Commissioner also visited the Mohacs Port at the border between Hungary and Croatia where he met the police patrol.

He finally met with the Minister of State for Infrastructure Mr Pal Völner where the issue of navigability for cargo transport and tourism transport on the Hungarian part of the Danube has been discussed. The Commissioner expressed his satisfaction on the fact that Hungary is taking its existing maintenance obligation very seriously.
