Commissioner Hahn visits Portugal

Commissioner Johannes Hahn will be in Portugal on 17- 19 November to discuss the current state of play regarding EU investments from the structural funds with several government representatives. Furthermore the issue of reprogramming funds to improve their uptake, to increase growth and job creation, is a central point of attention. The latter part of his trip will be devoted to the Norte region where the Commissioner will meet with Mr. Rui Rio, mayor of Porto, and visit projects co-financed by the EU.

These projects include the small enterprise "FiberSensing", which has become an innovative world leader in the development of monitoring systems.The Commissioner will also visit the Casa da Música, an emblem of the city. On 19 November, Commissioner Hahn takes the metro in Porto. Two new stations were opened last October on the "Yellow Line" (connecting Porto to Vila Nova de Gaia) with an EU investment of €19.7 million. The "Orange Line" (Dragão-Fânzeres) was inaugurated in January 2011 (with €80 million investment from the EU). The Commissioner will end his official journey by visiting the urban regeneration project in Vila d'Este, which improves the energy efficiency of housing.
