EU members and Commission help Bulgaria cope with refugee influx

EU members and Commission help Bulgaria cope with refugee influx
21/10/2013  -

Bulgaria is receiving in-kind assistance that will help cover the most urgent needs of refugees. Austria, Slovakia and Hungary have offered beds, blankets, kitchen utensils and other necessities that will serve the temporary residents of refugee centres in Bulgaria. The assistance, a direct expression of European solidarity, has arrived or is on its way.

Bulgaria is struggling to cope with the growing number of refugees running from the war in Syria. It activated the EU Civil Protection Mechanism to request European support. The assistance is being coordinated by the Emergency Response and Coordination Centre at the European Commission. Commissioner Kristalina Georgieva is closely following the situation.

In addition to this material support, Bulgaria can rely on technical assistance from its European family: the European Asylum Support Office will provide experts for asylum support.
