Forest fires in western Bosnia and Herzegovina have been largely contained thanks to assistance provided by Croatia via the European Civil Protection Mechanism.
The two Croatian Canadair planes made a total of 92 water drops over the fires during their two-day operation at the end of last week. Their mission went well and the authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina reported that, thanks to European support, the fires have been largely contained. For the time being the country has not requested additional international assistance for tackling forest fires.
The European Commission's Emergency Response Centre keeps monitoring forest fire risks throughout Europe. As of today, these risks are highest in parts of Italy, Spain and Portugal, along France's Mediterranean coast, in Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Cyprus, central Serbia, north-west and central Bulgaria, and parts of Turkey, Romania, Moldova and Ukraine.
