Commissioner Kristalina Georgieva is in Rome to appear at the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC), the most important inter-agency body in the humanitarian field. She will address the Committee on how to be more effective in strengthening resilience to natural and man-made disasters.
Georgieva is the first EU Commissioner to address the ‘IASC Principals’ since 2005. IASC brings together international organisations providing humanitarian assistance to people in need as a result of natural disasters, conflict-related emergencies, global food crises and pandemics.
The Commissioner will also hold talks with the Italian Foreign Ministry and meet Ertharin Cousin, Executive Director if the UN World Food Programme, and Baroness Valerie Amos, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator.
