The European Commission is mobilising to help get aid to Nigeria, where record floods and heavy rains have affected 7.7 million people. The extreme weather has displaced 2.1 million people in the country, wounded close to 30 000 and killed more than 360 others.
The European Commission has deployed its regional rapid response experts to Nigeria to assess humanitarian aid needs. The EU Civil Protection Mechanism is also on alert. The Commission's experts are working closely with humanitarian NGOs, UN partners, the Red Cross, local authorities and other donors.
