Commissioner Kristalina Georgieva is joining today's celebrations for Europe Day in Sofia, Bulgaria. This morning, together with the President of Bulgaria – Rossen Plevneliev – the Commissioner will meet with students at Sofia University to discuss the European project and Bulgaria's contribution to it. At noon, Georgieva will join Sofia's citizens and guests in the park outside of the National Theatre, where they will enjoy Ode to Joy, performed by children from the Sofia School of Music. The European anthem will be played simultaneously by music students in 25 Bulgarian cities today.

In the evening, Commissioner Georgieva will open the European film festival, running until 19 May and showing award-winning movies from different EU member states. The festival, organised by the European Commission, is free and takes place in the ‘Lumier’ cinema in Sofia.
