Commissioner Kristalina Georgieva is visiting Ireland's capital today. She will meet members of the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade and will discuss humanitarian priorities with Joe Costello, the Minister of State for Trade and Development. The Commissioner will give a speech at the Institute of International and European Affairs on 'Principles and Priorities underpinning Humanitarian Aid'. She will also engage in a roundtable discussion with representatives of Dóchas – The Irish Association of Non-Governmental Development Organisations.
After a busy day in Dublin, the Commissioner will return to an even busier schedule in Brussels. Tomorrow she will receive the Prime Minister of Somalia, Abdiweli Mohamed Ali, with whom she will talk about the European Union's contribution to the fight against hunger in the Horn of Africa. Commissioner Georgieva will also meet with the UN Under-Secretary-General and Emergency Relief Coordinator Valerie Amos, to discuss their shared concerns about the escalating violence in Syria and to outline plans for assisting the civilian population.
