This year’s drought has triggered a humanitarian crisis in the Horn of Africa. The earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan earlier in the year also showed the terrible damage that can be inflicted on developed economies. One conclusion that the development and humanitarian communities have drawn is that more needs to be done to build up resilience to disasters.
