The European Commission is among the main sponsors of food centres in Mogadishu, where assistance is the only lifeline for thousands of Somalis. Famine continues to spread across the country – yesterday the UN extended the famine zone to further regions in southern Somalia.
Watch the video to learn more about our assistance, for which up to 5 000 people queue each day in Mogadishu. For many of them, this is the only meal they get per day. The kitchen in the video is operated by SAACID, a Somali aid organisation that operates thanks to financial support from the European Commission. There are 16 such food distribution centres in Mogadishu.
