Commissioner Georgieva sets out for Yemen today, together with António Guterres - the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. They will gather first-hand information on the humanitarian challenges in the country, which is struggling to sustain a massive number of internally displaced persons and refugees from the Horn of Africa. The Commissioners will visit camps and talk with internally displaced persons and refugees, and will meet high-level Yemeni officials, humanitarian organisations and international partners working on the ground. The European Commission is a leading humanitarian donor to Yemen, and works closely with the UNHCR to help the country meet its increasingly pressing humanitarian needs.
