The European Commission has today committed €5 million to meet the immediate humanitarian needs of those affected by political turmoil in the Côte d’Ivoire. The funding will help provide health services, food and drinking water, shelter and sanitation. "While we hope for a rapid settlement of the crisis in the Côte d’Ivoire, it is our duty to prepare contingency plans and ensure the rapid provision of any humanitarian aid that is needed," said Commissioner Kristalina Georgieva. The Commission will continue to follow closely the evolution of events in West Africa, and stands ready to help should new humanitarian needs arise.
