Commissioner Georgieva holds high level meetings during the 2010 European Development Days (EDD). The European Development Days are a major global forum on development and cooperation, organised by the European Commission and the Belgian Presidency of the EU and taking place on 6 and 7 December in Brussels. Pressing humanitarian challenges; improving the delivery of aid to those in need; ensuring greater gender balance in development policy - these were some of the topics of today's high-level meetings attended by the European Commissioner for International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response. During the 5th edition of the EDD, she met with several international partners and important political figures. Commissioner Georgieva held bilateral talks with the Prime Minister of the National Palestinian Authority, Salam Fayyad; with the Secretary of State for International Development of the United Kingdom, Andrew Mitchell, with the Deputy Executive Director of UNICEF, and with the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, Dominique Strauss-Kahn. In addition, the Commissioner took part in a panel session entitled "Gender Equality: Essential to Combating Poverty – Girls and Boys, Women and Men can make the Difference".
