Commissioner Georgieva praised the UK for its determination to make the most cost-effective use of Europe’s resources in humanitarian assistance, and for its impressive commitment to continue supporting the needy around the world despite financial restrictions at home. Today, in London, the Commissioner had a series of practical discussions with members of the House of Lords, government ministers and NGO representatives. She outlined her policy priorities, answered questions about her plans to improve EU disaster response, and pledged to continue the excellent cooperation between the EU, the United Nations and other humanitarian partners.

Commissioner Georgieva emphasised that the largest share of ECHO’s NGO partners are British - a partnership that is most fruitful on the ground and greatly helps those in need.
