On 21 September, the European Commissioner for International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response - Kristalina Georgieva - participated in an awareness raising event on child undernutrition in New York, presided over by US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton and Irish Foreign Minister Micheál Martins. During the event, entitled "1000 days: change a life, change the future partnering to reduce child undernutrition", Commissioner Georgieva called for a global approach to nutrition, based on improving treatment for under-nourished children, making it easier for vulnerable groups (like mothers and children) to get food - including economic access - and developing the capacity of poor countries to produce their own food.
