Commissioner Georgieva visited Paris for a series of meetings with the French authorities to discuss topical issues related to humanitarian assistance and disaster response. She met with Bernard Kouchner, Minister for Foreign and European Affairs, with Hervé Morin Minister of Defence, Alain Joyandet, Secretary of state for Development cooperation and Francophonie, as well as with representatives of the Ministry of Interior in charge of Civil Protection. She also had a working lunch with representatives of French humanitarian NGOs. Commissioner Georgieva also visited the Crisis centres of the Ministries of Interior and of Foreign Affairs.
These meetings gave an opportunity for Commissioner Georgieva to outline her key priorities for the months and years to come, notably the strengthening of the EU disaster response capacity, the mid-term review of the implementation of the European Consensus on Humanitarian aid and preparatory work regarding the setting up of the future European Humanitarian Voluntary Corps. This visit to Paris is part of a tour of European capitals Commissioner Georgieva is to undertake for the coming weeks and months.
