Good morning, Ladies and gentlemen,

I am delighted to have the opportunity to speak to you today about the research and innovation opportunities that exist in Europe. I would like to give you a flavour of the many actions that we are taking to make Europe an even more attractive home for researchers, innovators and entrepreneurs.

Our relationship with the United States is very close to my heart. Like many Irish people, I have family here, and Americans are natural allies and colleagues for Europeans. We share many similar problems, and are keen to make the most of the same opportunities.
