Turkey: With TÜSIAD about reforms and positive agenda
Today I met with Ümit BOYNER, President of the Turkish Industrialists' and Businessmen's Association TÜSIAD. We had very good and open discussion and confirmed yet again that we have a number of objectives in common, most importantly to move Turkey forward in its accession process. TÜSIAD as Turkey's biggest industrialists' association is a key partner for us when discussing reforms and European agenda in Turkey and we meet regularly to exchange our views on this.
Today we touched mostly the key political reforms and the positive agenda. Further reform efforts are necessary; a new civilian constitution can act as a catalyst and provide a basis for further progress regarding the respect for fundamental rights and freedoms in Turkey. The work on the positive agenda is crucial to give the accession process new momentum and it also creates conditions for stakeholders like TÜSIAD to re-engage in the enlargement agenda.
I am particularly grateful for TÜSIAD's role and consistent engagement in raising the awareness of the private sector on these crucial areas. This is to the benefit of all citizens in Turkey.
