Meeting in Prague: Strong support for Eastern Partnership
Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Štefan Füle took part in the informal ministerial meeting of the Visegrad Four (V4) Group and countries of the Eastern Partnership in Prague on Monday. "This meeting offered us a very good opportunity not only to look forward but also to look back and recall what we have achieved in Eastern Partnership so far," Mr Füle said at the press conference after the meeting.
"We have moved forward in political association, in economic integration, in visa liberalisation, we start sectoral cooperation and we are strengthening the support for the civil society with the aim to move the East of Europe closer to the EU based on common values," he added."But nothing from our efforts and policies towards the Neighbourhood can replace the reforms which are stemming from the values fundamental to the Eastern Partnership," Commissioner Füle stated regarding the reforms and transformation needed in the countries in the European Neighbourhood.
Commissioner Füle also appreciated the role of the V4 countries and Baltic states who have been strong supporters in advancing the Eastern Partnership objectives. The informal ministerial meeting was also attended by the Danish EU Presidency, three Baltic states and High Representative/Vice-President of the European Commission Catherine Ashton did also attend.
