Pre-accession assistance for the Western Balkans, Iceland and Turkey, 6-7 December 2010

Pre-accession assistance for the Western Balkans, Iceland and Turkey, 6-7 December 2010

The European Commission, in cooperation with the World Bank, is hosting a conference in Brussels on 6-7 December 2010 to discuss how the Instrument for pre-Accession Assistance (IPA) can be improved to have the most positive impact on the progress of the Western Balkans, Turkey and Iceland towards the European Union. "IPA offers you an excellent training ground for the management of the future, and much larger, funds that you will receive once you join the EU. [...] We need you to join the EU in full confidence of your capacity to shape not only the fate of your country, but also the future of the EU", stated Commissioner Füle on 6 December addressing the participants of the conference.

The conference will also outline the post crisis difficulties faced by candidate countries and potential candidates and explore how deeper partnerships between the EU, the European financial institutions and the World Bank can help them meet these challenges.
