Commission proposes visa-free travel for citizens of Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina

"This proposal is of the utmost importance for the citizens of the countries concerned, since it will bring them closer to the EU. The visa-free regime will contribute to making the European perspective more tangible", Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Mr Štefan Füle stated on this occasion.

On 27 May the European Commission adopted a proposal enabling citizens of Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina to travel to Schengen countries without needing a short-term visa. The proposal is conditional on both countries fulfilling outstanding requirements. On this occasion the Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy, Mr Štefan Füle stated: "This proposal is of the utmost importance for the citizens of the countries concerned, since it will bring them closer to the EU. The visa-free regime will contribute to making the European perspective more tangible."[...] Citizens of the two countries will in future only need a valid biometric passport to enter the Schengen countries, which include all EU members except the UK and Ireland, as well as Switzerland, Norway and Iceland.
