Commissioner Damanaki delivered a speech on Thursday December 5th while participating in the Conference "European strategy for Blue Growth - Conditions for a Blue Economy in the Mediterranean" other speakers included Minister for Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies Ms Nunzia de Girolamo, Minister for Environment, and Protection of Land and Sea, Andrea orlando, the Vice President of Federpesca and the President of Confindustria, Members of the Italian and the European Parliament as well as regional representatives.
Commissioner Damanaki delivered a speech on Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated fishing in the framework of the Conference "Ending Illegal Fishing" from the Environmental Justice Foundation.

Commissioner Damanaki delivered a speech on "Europe and young people" during the European Youth Conference. The Conference was organised in Athens by the Greek-German School (Ελληνογερμανικής Αγωγής). Mr Martin Schulz, President of the European Parliament, visiting Athens, also participated in this Conference.

Speech at the annual meeting of the Chiefs of European Navies (Athens, 10 May 2013) - Commissioner Damanaki delivered the opening speech at the annual meeting of the Chiefs of European Navies (CHENS), an informal, independent and non-political forum whose membership includes the Chief of Navy of each European nation that has naval armed forces and is either a member of NATO or of the EU.
Speech at the 12th Facility for Euro-Mediterranean Investment and Partnership Conference (Athens, 18 April 2013) - Commissioner Damanaki participated in the 12th Facility for Euro-Mediterranean Partnership and Investment Conference in Athens, calling for promoting the blue economy in the Mediterranean and maximising the marine and maritime cooperation across all the partners of the region. Speaking at the event were also Philippe de Fontaine-Vive, Vice-President of the European Investment Bank, and Andrew Winbow, Assistant Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization. Ministers responsible for maritime affairs in Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, France, Greece, Malta and Palestine were also present.
The Conference "The High Seas, our Future", has been organised by the French Conseil Economique, Social et Environnemental as a follow-up to the Rio+20 Conference and covered all main issues regarding the governance of the High Seas through a full day of discussions amongst French and international stakeholders.
