Visit to Bucharest and Danube Delta

Commissioner Damanaki was in Romania as part of a two-day visit with Commissioner Ciolos.

The visit included official meetings with senior Romanian government officials as well as a number of roundtables with local stakeholders. Commissioner Damanaki was there to underline the need to turn the recently adopted CFP Reform into concrete results in the Black Sea and share ideas as to how best this can be achieved.

On Sunday, in St Gheorge in the Danube Delta , the Commissioner met the Romanian Prime Minister, Victor Ponta, to discuss issues including the upcoming Black Sea Conference and the European Fisheries Fund investments to Romania. The Commissioner also met with the Romanian Minister of Agriculture, Daniel Constantin, to touch upon the EFF implementation and the future European Maritime and Fisheries Fund programme. The Commissioner then hosted a roundtable with local stakeholders in the Danube Delta and visited a local turbot fish farm.

On Monday, Commissioner Damanaki met in Bucharest with the Romanian Prime-Minister Victor Ponta and Foreign Affairs Minister Titus Corlatean, where she urged for continued support and involvement in enhancing regional cooperation in the Black Sea, and to highlight the need to prioritise the forthcoming Black Sea Conference as an opportunity to do so.

The Commissioner held further meetings with Minister of Transportation, Mrs. Ramona Manescu, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Ms. Rovana Plumb and Delegated Minister of Water, Forests and Fisheries - Ms. Lucia Varga.

The visit ended with a local stakeholders meeting in Bucharest where the need for co-operation between governments, industry and stakeholders in the Black Sea region was highlighted.
