Commissioner Damanaki visiting Cyprus
Commissioner Damanaki is on a two-day visit to Cyprus, to discuss the preparation of the EU presidency in the field of maritime affairs and fisheries for the second semester of 2012, when Cyprus will be in office, confirming the envisaged strong cooperation between the Cypriot and Commission services in this framework.
Commissioner Damanaki highlighted the excellent spirit of cooperation between the Commission and the Cypriot Department for Fisheries and praised the Cypriot administration for the quality of its work in effectively making use of resources available under the European Fisheries Fund.
Commissioner Damanaki is meeting –among others– the Cypriot Minister for Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment, Mr. Dimitris Eliades, the Speaker of the Cypriot House of Representatives, Mr. Marios Garoyian, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Markos Kyprianou, Mr. Dimitris Christofias, President of the Republic of Cyprus and Mrs. Erato Kozakou Markoullis, Minister for Communication and Works.
She gave a lecture on "Europe and the Euro: Overcoming the Crisis ". The event was organized by the Cypriot Ministry of Agriculture and Environment in collaboration with the University of Cyprus, at the National Bank's of Greece auditorium.
On 29 April, Commissioner Damanaki took part in the Opening ceremony of a new Fishing Shelter, in Zygi.
