Quality products: Four Chinese agricultural products receive protected status in the EU English (en)

The honey pomelo "Guanxi Mi You", the apple "Shaanxi ping guo" and the tea "Longjing Cha" have this week been formally registered as Protected Denominations of Origin (PDO) and the yam "Lixian Ma Shan Yao" as Protected Geographical Indication (PGI). They are part of the 10 Chinese product names to be protected in the EU register as part of the "10 plus 10" project.

At a meeting today, Dacian Cioloş, European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, handed over the registered GI certificates for these products to Mr Zhi Shuping, Chinese Minister of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ).

Dacian Cioloş visited the AGRARIA fair in Cluj-Napoca English (en) română (ro)

Commissioner Dacian Cioloş was in Cluj, Romania, from 6 to 7 May 2011.

The European official met the Romanian Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development, Valeriu Tabără, visited the International fair of agriculture and food industry AGRARIA and participated in the conference "The Common agriculture policy and the academic agronomic education" organized by the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary  Medicine (USAMV) Cluj-Napoca. The Commissioner also had a meeting with the Mayor of Cluj-Napoca, Sorin Apostu.
