12 actions for the Single Market in 2012: Together for new growth

The European Commission adopted today the Single Market Act. It contains 12 key projects to revive the Single Market by 2012 while making life easier for all its actors: businesses, citizens, consumers and workers. The Commission also launched proposals for a unitary patent title today, a key action under the Single Market Act. Under the draft rules, the costs of patents in Europe will be significantly reduced.

As part of the Single Market Act presented today, the European Commission has tabled today a package of two legislative proposals, under enhanced cooperation, that will radically reduce the cost of patents in Europe by up to 80%.

One of the lessons of the financial crisis is that corporate governance, until now usually based on self-regulation, was not as effective as it could have been. The European Commission has launched today a public consultation that addresses the ways in which corporate governance of European companies can be improved. The deadline for submitting contributions is 22 July 2011.
